LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 10, 2019) – The Cowgirl Swimming and Diving teams will travel to Idaho this week to take on Boise State. The meet is set for Friday with a start time of 4 p.m. MT at the Boise Swimming & Diving Facility. This will be the first conference meet of the season for both squads.
"I think our top end matches up pretty well with their top end. This meet is going to come down to the depth and the individuals who are finishing in second, third and fourth places," head coach
Dave Denniston said. "We expect Katelyn (Blattner), Lainee (Jones), and Emily (Giles) to continue to swim strong so it will come down to those two and three spots."
The Cowgirls are coming off a second-place finish at the DU Relays last Saturday where they finished ahead of Colorado School of Mines and Adams State tallying a final team score of 168 points. At the DU Relays, junior
Katelyn Blattner would be a standout for the Cowgirls. Blattner would find herself on four winning relay teams as she helped the Cowgirls to wins in the 3x500 freestyle, 3x100 backstroke, 400 freestyle and the 500 crescendo relays.
Redshirt junior
Karla Contreras will also be returning to competition after earning Mountain West Diver of the Week Honors. It was the fifth time in Contreras' career that she has garnered Diver of the Week honors. She earned the honors after accounting for 18 points in the Cowgirls season opening victory over Northern Colorado Bears.
For Boise State, this will be their first competition of the season as they have yet to compete in a meet or invitational. Last season, the Broncos went 9-3 overall in dual action. As a team, they finished third at the MW Championships and fourth at the CSCAA National Invitational. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 19, 2019 with the Broncos coming out on top by a final score of 162-138.
Following the meet against the Broncos, the Cowgirls and Cowboys will host conference foe Air Force on Friday, Oct. 18 at Laramie High School. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. MT.
