COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 3, 2019) – For the fourth consecutive match to begin Mountain West play, the Wyoming volleyball team played a five-set match and for the third time in those four matches, the Cowgirls came out on top, outlasting Air Force Wednesday night, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25 and 15-10.
Jackie McBride paced the three Cowgirls (8-7, 3-1 MW) with double-figure kills as she tallied a career-high 18 kills while hitting .341 and adding seven total blocks. KC McMahon added 11 kills while Tara Traphagan added 10, eight digs and a pair of blocks. Faith Waitsman chipped in with seven kills and four blocks. UW out-blocked the Falcons (4-11, 1-2 MW) in the victory 11-6.
Kyra Slavik had a big-time match from her setter spot, registering her second consecutive double-double. Slavik led the Cowgirls with 43 assists and had 18 digs to go along with three block assists.
In the back row, Wyoming got contributions from all over as Madi Fields led the way with 22 digs. Erika Jones and Hailey Zuroske had career-highs in digs with 16 and 12, respectively while Kiahlei Yaste added nine.
For the match, Wyoming out-hit the Falcons, .172 to .087 and hit .444 in the decisive fifth set. Air Force did have four service aces on the night while the Cowgirls failed to record one, however, the Falcons committed seven serving errors to Wyoming's five.
The Pokes will now get a much-needed rest after four, five-set matches in eight days. Wyoming returns to action with a pair of home matches at 7220 beginning Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m., against San Diego State.
