COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 28, 2019) – For the second time in the last three weeks and the fourth time overall in her career, Madi Fields has been named the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Fields, who took home the honor two weeks ago as well, had an outstanding week defensively for Wyoming in the Cowgirls' sweeps over Nevada and San Jose State. For the week, Fields averaged 5.67 digs per set (34 overall) and was part of a defensive effort that held opponents to just a .145 hitting percentage for the week.
Fields began the week with a 22-dig performance against Nevada. The 22 digs were just four shy of tying the program record for most digs in a three-set match. She then followed that up with a 12-dig effort against SJSU. On the year, Fields is averaging 4.34 digs per set, a mark that ranks third in the league during conference play and second overall.
Now, the attention shifts to Colorado State as Fields and the rest of the Cowgirls travel to face the 14th-ranked Rams at 7 p.m., Tuesday in Fort Collins.
