Cowgirls Travel to No. 14 CSU For Mountain West Showdown

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 28, 2019) – The Wyoming volleyball team puts its seven-match winning streak on the line Tuesday night as the Cowgirls travel to face 14th-ranked Colorado State at 7 p.m., in Fort Collins.

Last time out, the Cowgirls (14-7, 9-1 MW) concluded their perfect week by sweeping both Nevada and San Jose State in Laramie. Wyoming hit .343 as a team for the week. UW hit .333 against the Wolf Pack and .354 against SJSU.

Madi Fields averaged 5.67 digs per set in the two sweeps and was named the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks for her efforts. Fields is averaging 4.34 digs per set in 2019, a mark that ranks second in the Mountain West overall and third during league play. Fields' 360 digs for the season leads the conference.

Mackenzie Coates averaged 12.1 assists per set last week against Nevada and San Jose State. KC McMahon led the Cowgirls with 24 kills (4.0 per set) while hitting .314. Coates ranks third during MW play averaging 10.52 assists per set while McMahon ranks sixth in the conference averaging 3.32 kills per and eighth in points per at 3.62.

Prior to the match against San Jose State, senior Tara Traphagan received the Mike English Memorial Scholarship. Traphagan has a cumulative GPA of 3.97 and is majoring in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. The scholarship is in honor Mike English, who coached the Cowgirl Volleyball Team from 1986 to 1993.

No. 14 Colorado State (20-1, 10-0 MW) leads the Mountain West during conference play in seven different categories, including team hitting percentage (.307) and opponent hitting percentage (.103). The Rams have three players in the top-10 in the league in hitting percentage during conference matches this year. Breana Runnels meanwhile, ranks third in the league averaging 3.67 kills per set while Katie Oleksak leads the league averaging 11.13 assists per set. CSU has won 19 consecutive matches, including a five-set victory in Laramie over the Cowgirls to begin the month of October.
