RENO, Nev. (Oct. 27, 2019) – The Wyoming soccer team (7-7-4, 4-5-1 MW) dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker against the Nevada Wolf Pack (4-13-0, 3-7-0 MW) on Sunday afternoon.

The Cowgirls came out early and had two chances with shots from redshirt freshman Jamie Tatum. She had one saved by goalie Kendal Stovall and an opportunity that went wide. Both teams played solid defense until a shot by Payton Lieb was blocked. Nearly seven minutes later, each team had chances with a shot by Katelyn Barner that was saved by Stovall and a save by goalie Hannah Lee. In the 40th minute, freshman Keelie Wortmann had her look at the goal go wide. The teams went in to the lockerroom tied up at 0-0 all. The Cowgirls had five shots comped to four by the Wolf Pack.

The Cowgirls came out aggressive in the second half and capitalized on that opportunity. In the 56th minute off a ball from senior Michaela Stark, sophomore Indianna Asimus buried it past the goalie to give Wyoming a 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls had six more chances to increase the lead over the next 20 minutes with no result. With 73:05 on the clock a foul by Wyoming gave Nevada a penalty chance. Gabby Brown was able to get it past goalie Riley Furbush to tie up the contest 1-1. Less than a minute later after the Cowgirls had kicked it off, the Wolf Pack intercepted the ball and the midfielder Hannah Souza broke free down the left side of the field and pushed it past Furbush which proved to be the game winning goal. Nevada went on to win the match 2-1.

Tatum finished the match with a team-high four with three of them on goal. Freshmen Maria Allen and Kellie Wortmann ahd two chances. Two Cowgirls logged all 90 minutes in the match. Lee and Furbush played 45 minutes in net and recorded three saves. Stovall finished her night with nine saves in 90 minutes. The Cowgirls had 14 shots compared to seven by the Wolf Pack, while the two teams combined for 13 fouls.
