SUNNYVALE, Calif. (October 19, 2019) – The Wyoming Cowgirl cross country team ran a strong race at the Santa Clara-hosted Bronco Invite Saturday morning, placing second as a team with 148 points. The Cowgirls navigated the six-kilometer course at Baylands Regional Park with familiarity, as they raced there last season.
"The ladies put together a great race today," said head cross country coach
Scott Dahlberg. "We ran with each other, worked up in the middle section and competed very well at the end. This is a great step as we head into conference in two weeks."
Wyoming was led by sophomore
Katelyn Mitchem's impressive sixth-place time of 20:31.7, which is the third-fastest six-kilometer cross country time in Cowgirl history. Mitchem's time is the fastest 6k time by a Cowgirl since 2004, when Holly Page finished a pair of races in 20:18 and 20:31.
"Katelyn did a fantastic job of staying engaged and pushing as the race progressed," Dahlberg said.
Every Cowgirl scorer finished in the top-50 of the race out of over 200 athletes. After Mitchem, senior
Kacey Doner placed 31
st in 21:07.9. Sophomores
Kaylee Bentley and
Addi Iken were running with Doner and placed 34
th and 36
