LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 18, 2019) – The Wyoming soccer team (5-6-4, 2-4-1 MW) lost a heartbreaker against the league-leading Boise State Broncos (13-3-0, 6-1-0 MW) with a goal in the 103rd minute of double-overtime on Friday afternoon in Laramie.

Boise State came out firing to begin the match with five shots in the first 15 minutes which was answered with four saves by sophomore goalie Hannah Lee and a shot that went wide. The Cowgirls first and only opportunity of the half came at the 20:43 mark on the clock with a shot by redshirt freshman Jamie Tatum which was blocked. The Broncos collected two more shots the remainder of the half which came up empty and the two teams headed into the lockerroom all tied up, 0-0. Wyoming was outshot 7-1 and Boise State had six corner kicks.

In the second half, Boise State continued to play strong and really pushed the pace on its side of the field. After two early shots, sophomore goalie Riley Furbush was tested with a shot by Emily Curry that she would stop. Wyoming had a look from senior Summer Taube that was saved by Sydney Smith with 59:28 on the clock. The Broncos would get four more opportunities the remaining 30 minutes of the half that included a save by Furbush. Even after 90 minutes of action, the two teams remained in a 0-0 tie and were headed to overtime. The Broncos had eight total shots compared to one by the Cowgirls.

Both teams had a pair of shots at scoring in the first overtime period. A shot by Curry hit the post in the 93rd minute while Tatum had a look that was saved by Smith. In the 100th minute of the game, a shot by freshman Hannah Hagen was stopped by Smith while Raven Sweeney had a chance go wide. It would remain scoreless and headed in to the second overtime. Unfortunately, the Broncos struck early in the second ten minutes. Off a corner kick, the ball bounced around the front of the goal and was punched in past the goalie by Curry to give the Broncos the 1-0 double-overtime victory. Sweeney had the assist on the goal.

"I saw toughness from this team today and they fought really hard," head coach Pete Cuadrado said. "Obviously, they are a really good team, now 14-2 and leading the league. I'm disappointed for our team and it was a heartbreaking loss. Our effort was fantastic, stuck to the game plan and had a couple of really good chances. Unfortunately, one play on a corner kick in double-overtime was the difference in the game. I told the team how proud I was of them. Our job is to replicate game after game and get positive results going forward."

Tatum finished the match with a team-high two shots in her 102 minutes of action. Taube and Hagen had one shot a piece. Lee played 45 minutes in net while Furbush saw action in 58 minutes and combined for nine saves. Smith went the entire way for Boise State. The Broncos had 18 shots compared to four by the Cowgirls.

Wyoming is back on the pitch on Sunday to close out its home schedule against the Utah State Aggies. The match is set for 1 p.m. MT at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
