Cowgirl Soccer Readies for Final Two Home Matches

UW will host Broncos and Aggies

LARAMIE, Wyo. (October 16, 2019) – The Wyoming soccer team will close out its conference home schedule with two matches this weekend. They will host the Boise State Broncos on Friday afternoon followed by a contest with the Utah State Aggies. Friday's match is set for 3 p.m. MT while Sunday's contest will begin at 1 p.m. There will be a commemorative 2018 MW Championship blanket giveaway for the match against the Broncos, one per person while supplies last. Against the Aggies, it will be senior day for five players, Charlotte Hume, Carlee Martin, Talia Sclafani, Michaela Stark and Summer Taube.
 
Wyoming enters the week with a 5-5-4 record and 2-3-1 in MW action. They finished in a 0-0 double overtime draw with the San Jose State on Friday followed by a tough 2-0 loss against the Fresno State Bulldogs on Sunday.
 
Four Cowgirls currently lead the team in goals with four, which is tied for ninth in the league, including redshirt freshman Jamie Tatum. She also has a team high 38 shots, 23 of them on goal, plus nine points. Stark and Taube along with sophomore Indianna Asimus also have four goals. Stark has 24 shots and two game winning goals. Sophomore Amber Vokoun has a team-best two assists.
 
In the MW, the Cowgirls are third in overall goals scored with 23 (1.64 gpg) and fourth in points with 57 (4.07 ppg). The offense is averaging 11.1 shots per game and has a 58.3 shots on goal percentage.
 
Sophomore goalie Hannah Lee has played in all 14 matches in net, has 40 saves and a 1.55 goals against average. She ranks tenth overall in the league in saves per game. Fellow sophomore Riley Furbush has played in ten games and has 30 saves. Freshman Keelie Wortmann leads the way with 1,277 minutes played followed by sophomore Savannah Warner with 1,117 minutes on the season.
 
"Hopefully, our team will take the lessons from this past weekend and move forward," head coach Pete Cuadrado said.  "We left some good opportunities on the table during both matches.  Defensively, we didn't perform at our best, and really need to focus this week in preparation for our upcoming home games.  We had moments where we played really well, however we need to maintain an overall higher level of play throughout the entire match."

Boise State enters the weekend as the league leader with a 13-2 overall record and 5-1 in conference action. Last time out, the Broncos defeated the New Mexico Lobos, 1-0. 
 
The reigning MW offensive player of the Year Raimee Sherle leads the way with ten goals, seven assists and 68 shots. She ranks first in shots, points and goals in the league. Aubree Chatterton follows with six goals, 12 points and 46 shots. In goal, Sydney Smith has played in all 15 contests and has 55 saves for the season.  As a team, Boise State is averaging 2.13 goals and 17.8 shots per contest.
 
They were picked to finish first in the Mountain West preseason coaches' poll. Boise State is coached by Jim Thomas who is in his seventh season with the program.
 
This is the 14th meeting between the two teams. The Cowgirls lead the series 7-5-1. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 30, 2018 with Boise State earning a 2-1 victory. 
 
Utah State enters the week with a 6-7-1 overall record, a 1-4-1 mark in conference play and will play Colorado State prior to the Cowgirls.  Last time out, the Aggies dropped a 1-0 contest against San Diego State.
 
Three Aggies have a team high two goals including junior Kami Warner. She also has one assist and 11 shots. Fellow junior Imelda Williams and freshman Sid Barlow also have two goals apiece. Junior Ashley Cardozo has a team-leading seven assists.  In net, Diera Walton has played in 13 matches and has a 0.95 goals against average plus 61 saves. The Aggies average 1.14 goals and 12.9 shots per contest.
 
They were picked to finish ninth in the MW coaches' poll. Utah State is coached by Heather Cairns who is in her 17th season with the program.
 
This is the 15th meeting between the two teams. Utah State leads the series 7-5-2. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 28, 2018. Wyoming came out on top with a 1-0 double overtime win.
