Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 10, 2019) – Wyoming earned its first conference sweep of the season Thursday night as the Cowgirls quickly dispatched of San Diego State, winning 25-19, 25-13 and 25-22. It was the Cowgirls' first non-five set match of Mountain West play.

"It was good to get the win, especially in straight sets, but more importantly, we played better, we looked crisper," said head coach Chad Callihan.

"It was nice to see us come out right from the start and put it together. We were crisp offensively and overall, a really good effort."

In all, four Cowgirls (9-7, 4-1 MW) ended the evening with double-figure kills. Jackie McBride led the way with 12 kills and hit .500 while Halie McArdle, KC McMahon and Tara Traphagan all recorded 10 and all hit at least .333 on the night, led by Traphagan's .529 hitting percentage.

Kyra Slavik paced a Pokes offense that hit a season-best .389 as a team on the night. Slavik also averaged over 12 assists per set as she recorded 37 for the night while also leading the way with three total blocks.

As a team, the Cowgirls were actually out-blocked 8-5, but made up for it at the service line, recording a season-high nine service aces in the win while committing just three errors. The Aztecs (9-7, 2-3 MW) didn't have a single service ace.

"I thought we executed real well, especially from the service line. That's probably the best we've served it, hitting our zones, putting some good movement on the ball," continued Callihan.

In the back row, defensively, it was Erika Jones that led the Cowgirls with eight digs on the night. Slavik added seven while Madi Fields and Kiahlei Yaste each chipped in with five.

On the night, Wyoming had 34 digs to SDSU's 31 and also had nine more assists (44-35) than the Aztecs and scored 20 more points, gaining a 63-43 advantage. SDSU hit .253 in the match.

The Cowgirls return to home action Saturday to close out the weekend as Fresno State comes to the UniWyo Sports Complex for a 1 p.m., match.
