Cowboys Open Road Swing at UNLV on Saturday

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 3, 2019) – The Cowboys open a two-game road swing on Saturday heading to Las Vegas to take on the Runnin' Rebels of UNLV. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. MT start in what will be the 57th meeting all-time between the two schools.
 
The game will be televised on ESPNU and can also be seen on the WatchESPN App. Sam Farber will be on the call with Richie Schueler on color.
 
Fans can listen to the contest and follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Dave Walsh and Kevin McKinney will call the action.
 
A Look at the Matchup
Wyoming opened conference play with a 69-55 loss to Boise State on Wednesday evening in the Arena-Auditorium. Wyoming enters the contest 4-10 overall and 0-1 in the MW.
 
The Pokes have slowed the game down recently, as Wyoming attempted 40 shots against BoiseState, the lowest under head coach Allen Edwards. Wyoming has averaged 58 attempts under the third year head coach.
 
Wyoming heads to Vegas ranking tenth in the nation in free throws made with 253 on the year. Wyoming is shooting 75 percent from the line for No. 44 in the nation. Both those stats rank second in the MW.
 
The Runnin's Rebels enter Saturday's contest with a 7-6 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the MW after defeating Colorado State, 78-76 in a thriller on Wednesday. UNLV is one of the nation's top rebounding teams ranking No. 13 in the nation grabbing over 42 per game. UNLV grabs nearly 17 offensive rebounds per game to rank second nationally.   
 
Each Team's Leaders
Wyoming is led in scoring, rebounding and assists by senior Justin James. He adds 21.3 points per game to lead the MW and rank No. 23 in the nation. He also ranks third in the MW grabbing 9.6 rebounds per game. He adds 4.3 assists per night. He leads the nation in free throw attempts at 133 and makes with 101. He also ranks fourth in the nation in minutes played.
 
Redshirt Freshman Hunter Thompson adds 11.8 points per game to go along with 3.8 rebounds. True freshman Trace Young added 16 points and six rebounds in the Pokes' win over Dixie State and followed that up with 16 points against Boise State. He has hit seven three pointers in his two games this season.
 
UNLV is led by Kris Clyburn at 12.8 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds. Amauri Hardy ranks second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and is second on the team with 40 assists. UNLV is without one of its top players in Shakur Juiston, as he was averaging 10.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
 
About the Series
Wyoming is 18-28 all-time against the Runnin' Rebels and are 3-27 on the road against UNLV. The Runnin' Rebels took last season's meeting in Las Vegas 85-70 on Feb. 10.
