LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 18, 2018) – The Wyoming women's swimming and diving team will start off the new season on the road as they take on Northern Colorado this Thursday. The meet will take place at the Butler-Hancock Swimming Pool in Greeley, Colorado, with the meet to start at 4 p.m. MT. The diving competition will take place halfway through the meet.

"We're actually getting the season underway early this year," Head Coach Dave Denniston said. "Usually we have our first competition after the Brown and Gold Meet. This team has really impressed me, especially on the women's side. We have great leadership with our seniors, and this team has been a lot of fun to coach."

The Cowgirls kick the season off before the Brown and Gold Meet unlike years before. Wyoming will take this meet as an opportunity to find their standout athletes for the 2018-19 season. UW hosts the annual Brown and Gold Meet next Friday, Sept. 28, at the John Corbett Building.

Wyoming finished fourth in the Mountain West last season while the Bears finished their season fifth in the Western Athletic Conference. The Cowgirls met up with UNC last year on Nov. 3, and UNC came out victorious with a win in the last race of the meet to make the final score 126-117.

The Cowgirls return six All-Mountain West performers from last season, led by Samantha Burke, who won the Mountain West title in the 100-meter backstroke last season.

"It's going to be a special season and I'm excited to see these kids race," Denniston added. "I'm excited to see what they can do. The whole team is doing really well, and I'm looking forward to seeing who is going to stand out."
