Cowgirl Basketball Set to Battle San Jose State on Saturday

It will be the 12th meeting between the two schools

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 15, 2018) – The Wyoming women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday afternoon against the San José State Spartans. The game is set for a 3 p.m. MT tip time at the Events Center in San Jose. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the GoWyo.com website.
 
The Cowgirls enter the contest 17-7 overall and continue to sit in first place with a 10-3 conference record after a 70-50 victory against San Diego State on Wednesday night. Senior Liv Roberts led the way with a game-high 18 points while adding six rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Sophomore Taylor Rusk finished her night with 17 points with five boards and three assists, followed by Bailee Cotton with 11 points and ten rebounds. Junior Marta Gomez also chipped in ten points and five assists. UW shot 27-of-57 (.474) from the field and 13-of-27 (.481) from the field. The Cowgirls had 20 assists on 27 baskets and out rebounded the Aztecs, 36-30.
 
Roberts is averaging a team-high 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, which ranks 10th and 14th in overall games, respectively in the MW. She is followed by Rusk who is adding 9.0 points and 3.0 assists, while Cotton is chipping in 8.5 points and 6.0 boards per game. UW is shooting 506-of-1228 (.412) from the field and 261-of-342 (.762) from the free throw line. The Cowgirls are also outscoring their opponents 60.6-54.8 and out rebounding teams 33.9-32.0.
 
The San José State Spartans enter the game with a 6-18 record and 3-10 in MW play. Last time out, the Spartans were defeated 81-71 by Fresno State. Sophomore Taylor Turney leads the way in scoring with 13.9 points per game followed by senior Myzhanique Ladd with a team-high 7.0 rebounds along with 12.5 points. They return one starter and seven letterwinners to a team that went 11-21 and 7-11 in the league last season.
 
This will be the 12th meeting ever between the two schools. UW leads the series 8-3. The last time the two teams met was January 27, 2018 with the Cowgirls coming out on top 58-46 in Laramie. The Spartans are coached by Jamie Craighead who is in her fifth season with the program.
