The Cowgirls enter the contest 16-7 overall and sit in first place with a 9-3 conference record after a 69-56 victory against UNLV on Saturday afternoon. Senior
Liv Roberts led the way with a game-high 21 points along with three rebounds and three assists. Fellow seniors
Natalie Baker and
Marleah Campbell each chipped in 11 points, while Baker and junior
Bailee Cotton had a team-high six rebounds. Wyoming finished 23-of-46 (.500) from the field and 14-of-24 (.583) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls had 21 assists on 23 baskets and 27 points off the bench. The 14 three-point field goals tie for the most this season. They also knocked down 14 against Drake on Nov. 21.
Roberts is averaging a team-high 13.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, which ranks 10
th and 14
th in overall games, respectively in the MW. She is followed by sophomore
Taylor Rusk who is adding 8.7 points and 3.0 assists, while Cotton is chipping in 8.3 points and 5.8 boards per game. UW is shooting 479-of-1171 (.409) from the field and 258-of-339 (.761) from the free throw line. The Cowgirls are also outscoring their opponents 60.2-55.0 and out rebounding teams 33.8-32.0.
SDSU is currently 10-13 overall and 4-8 in league play after a 75-72 win over Nevada last time out. Senior McKynzie Fort leads the way averaging 16.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest. Fellow senior Genna Gomez follows with 10.0 points plus 3.3 boards. As a squad, the Aztecs are averaging 65.3 points and 37.6 rebounds per contest. They return four starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 11-19 and 6-12 in the league last season.
This will be the 56th meeting ever between the two schools. San Diego State leads the series 28-27. The last time the two teams met was December 28, 2017 with SDSU coming out on top with a 68-62 win in San Diego. The Aztecs are coached by Stacie Terry who is in her fifth season.
