LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 26, 2018) – Wyoming wrestler Sam Turner has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. It marks the first Big 12 weekly honor of Turner's career and the third for a Cowboy this season.

Turner had a stellar day last week at the Reno Tournament of Champions, streaking through the 141-pound bracket on the way to his first collegiate Reno title. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native knocked off five opponents, including No. 9 Kaid Brock of Oklahoma State in the semifinals en route to earning top honors at the weight. He was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Turner is 14-8 on the season thus far. The win over Brock was his second ranked victory of the year, with the previous ranked win coming over No. 16 Yahya Thomas of Northwesterm at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Turner and the Cowboys will hit the mat later this week for four duals at the South Beach Duals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Pokes will face off with No. 4 NC State, No. 6 Cornell, Michigan State and SIU-Edwardsville over two days, beginning on Saturday.
