KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 14, 2018)  –   For the third time this season, senior defender Taylor Burton was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches Association as it announced NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-America Teams this week.

Burton, who was a third team selection, and Boise State junior Raimee Sherle were the only two players selected from the Mountain West Conference. She becomes only the second player in school history to earn the honor. Former Cowgirl Lori Scheider was the last Wyoming player selected in 2003.

The award is the latest for Burton who moved on to the All-American ballot after earning First Team All-West Region honors earlier in the month. A two-time Academic All-Mountain West selection, she will graduate with a degree in elementary education and has a current gpa of 3.473.

To be up for consideration, players must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their careers, start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of their team.

She was also a First Team All-Pacific Region pick by the United Soccer Coaches Association. It's the first time in the program's history that an individual has been a first team selection. She was also named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, which was also a first in program history, and a First Team All-MW honoree.

Burton, a 5-9 defender from Centennial, Colo., started in all 11 conference matches and all 20 games for Wyoming. She logged 1,901 minutes of the 1,926 played by UW in MW action from her defender position. Burton helped the team record a school best eight shutouts for the second straight season. During league play, she recorded eight shots with six of them on goal and 11 shots overall with eight on goal.  Burton had one goal on the season, which was the game winner in the Cowgirls 1-0 victory over Iowa, along with two points.

Over the past four seasons, she played in 77 contests which is tied for ninth in school history, and 69 starts, which is 11th all-time. She also logged 6,547 career minutes. Burton had six career goals and three assists from her defender position. She had 42 career shots, 25 shots on goal and four game winning goals, which is tied for tenth all-time.
