LARAMIE, Wyo. (December 11, 2018) –
Ja'la Henderson and
William Nolan have been named the Mountain West Women's and Men's Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Overall, it is the second indoor track & field weekly award for Henderson, and it is the first weekly indoor track & field honor for Nolan.
Last week, Henderson, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, broke the 38-year-old long jump school record with a leap of 20 feet, seven inches, to win the event at the Wyoming-hosted Power Meet. That mark is currently first in the Mountain West and the entire NCAA this season. Henderson also placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 41-9.25. That distance is first in the MW and fourth in the NCAA. Her two first-place finishes earned the Cowgirls 10 points in the team standings.
Nolan, a sophomore from Cheyenne, Wyo., also swept the long jump and triple jump events. In the long jump, Nolan placed first with a mark of 24-3.75, a personal-best distance and also tied for the 10
th-best jump in school history. That jump is first in the MW and fourth in the NCAA. In the triple jump, Nolan leaped 49-8.5 to set a personal best. That jump is first in the conference and tied for 10
th in the nation. Nolan's 10 points earned with the two first-place finished helped Wyoming in the team standings.
The Wyoming track & field teams are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19, when they travel to Fargo, N.D., for the NDSU Team Challenge.
