COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 9, 2018) – Cowgirl swimmer Lainee Jones has been named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week for Sept. 14-Oct. 7. She is the first UW swimmer to earn the honor since Maria Harutjunjan on Feb. 3, 2017.

Jones, a freshman from Pueblo, Colo., won the first event of her Cowgirl career with a victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.47 and followed that up with third place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.33. She was the lead leg in the 400 freestyle relay that came away with a win. At the Denver Relays, she was a part of three relays that finished in first and a fourth that was second. Jones was the anchor leg in the 3x300 freestyle relay that took the event with a time of 8:55.34, followed by the 500 crescendo relay that swam a time of 4:34.46. Jones was the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay that finished first with a time of 3:29.41, while the 4x25 freestyle relay placed second (44.11).

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday to host the New Mexico State Aggies. Diving will begin at 3:30 p.m. MT followed by swimming at 5 p.m. The meet will take place at Corbett Pool.
