LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 31, 2018) – The Cowboy swimming team will host the Colorado School of Mines this Friday in Laramie. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. MT at Corbett Pool. This dual was a late addition to both team's schedules.

"We both like to have our men race as much as we can throughout the season," head coach Dave Denniston said. "I know our team loves this opportunity to get more pool time. There's going to be some good head to head races this weekend."

The Cowboys were handed their first loss of the season on Saturday against Denver. Wyoming won four of 16 events. Some of those wins highlighted by Mitchell Hovis posting the top time of 56.84 in the 100-yard backstroke. In the 50-yard freestyle, David Murphy in a season best time, 20.81, to take first place. The Cowboys also finished two, three, four in the 100-yard freestyle.

On the diving board, the Cowboys swept the 1-meter board posting the top three scores. Ryan Russi took first with a score of 273.23, Brendan Byrnes recorded 211.13 mark for a second-place spot and Elijah Chan took third place with a score of 210.68. In the 3-meter, Russi won his second board of the day with a number of 303.83 while Byrnes earned another second-place finish with 243.83 mark.

There will be no competitive diving on Friday due to Colorado School of Mines being absent of a diving team. Wyoming will bring divers in as an exhibition event halfway through swimming.

"It will be good to still get a chance to see what Ryan (Russi), Elijah (Chan) and Brendan (Byrnes) can do," Denniston added.

Colorado School of Mines are coming off tough two loss performance at the Air Force Duals. Last year in this matchup, the Cowboys went home with a 173.5-83.5 victory. The men won the first 12 races of the day. Former Cowboys Slade Sheaffer and current senior Cowboy Jack Herron led the way in the dual by winning two races each.

Following the meet, the Cowboys will return to the pool on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Corbett Invite. The Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 9 against Washington State, followed by a meet at Idaho on Saturday, Nov. 10.
