Laramie, Wyo. – Two outstanding student-athletes and a dedicated student worker are the winners of the 2018 Admiral Land Award and Trophy, a great Wyoming homecoming tradition. This year's Award co-winners are wrestler Bryce Meredith and basketball player Liv Roberts, and the Trophy winner is Kayla Cryer, a student assistant in Game Management. The presentations were made at Saturday's Wyoming-Utah State Homecoming football game.

The Admiral Land Award is presented to the student-athlete(s) who has completed his or her Wyoming competition during the preceding academic year and demonstrated outstanding achievement in intercollegiate competition, exemplary personal conduct on and off the field, and maintained academic standing with satisfactory progress toward a degree. The Admiral Land Trophy is awarded to the student (non-collegiate athlete) who has done the most to promote Intercollegiate Athletics at the University during the previous school year.

A native of Cheyenne, Wyo., Meredith was a three-time All American wrestler at Wyoming, twice placing as the national runner-up at 141 pounds. He is just the fourth grappler in program history to accumulate three or more All American honors in his career. He won the 2018 Big 12 championship at 141 pounds and was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament. He also excelled in the classroom, twice earning First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors, as well as being a two-time NWCA All-Academic honoree. Meredith is the son of Lori and Robert Meredith.

A stellar all-around basketball player, Roberts was the 2018 Mountain West Conference player of the year. She also earned Mountain West All-Conference honors twice, and earned All-Defensive Team recognition as a junior. She led the Cowgirls in nine categories during the 2017-18 season, and scored over 1200 points during her career, while corralling 597 rebounds. A native of Missoula, Mont., she was a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and a four-time Academic All-Mountain West honoree. She is the daughter of Raphael and Cheri Roberts.

Kayla Cryer is a student assistant in the UW Athletics Game Management Office.  A Communications major and former Cowgirl Soccer player, Cryer has been with Athletics since August of 2016 and is always willing to help with whatever is needed. A reliable worker, she has been trusted to handle events single-handedly and manages every task with professionalism and grace. Kayla hails from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is the daughter of David and Shelley Cryer.

The Admiral Land awards have been a special part of Homecoming since 1953. They were established as a tribute to distinguished UW alumnus Admiral Emory S. Land, class of 1898. Land was a World War II Shipping Administrator and head of the U.S. Maritime Service. At UW, he was a member of the first football team and four of the first five teams in school history.
