LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 17, 2018) – The Cowboys and Cowgirl swimming and diving teams will head to Colorado Springs to take on the Air Force Falcons on Friday. This will be the first conference meet for both the Cowboys and Cowgirls this season.

"The men have always had a really good rivalry against Air Force. They are looking forward to the competition and have some fast times," Head Coach Dave Denniston said. "They want to win like anyone does and this will be their first dual of the year. On the women's side, they should be able to control the meet, but there will be some good head to head races. We will also get to see some more diving showcased on Friday."

The women are coming off of their second dual victory this season with a 178-117 win over New Mexico State last Friday.  The Cowgirls excelled winning 11 out of the 16 events against the Aggies. The performance was highlighted in the diving events by CeeJay Harris who took first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. On the swimming side, the duo of Talita Te Flan and Astrid Iturbe went first and second in the 1000 freestyle recording times of 10:54.94 and 10:56.69, respectively. The Cowgirls also got another strong performance by Lainee Jones, coming off her Mountain West Swimmer of the Week award. She earned victories in the 50 freestyle (24.62) and 100 butterfly (58.14).

For the Cowboys, this will be their first dual meet of the season and second competition of the year. The Cowboys opened the season with a second place finish at the DU relays with 166 points. This meet will serve as a chance to see what the Cowboys are capable of against a strong opponent in Air Force, who placed fourth last year at the WAC Championships.

The Air Force women started its 2018-19 campaign with a set of two invites and an open water race. The women's team opened with a second place finish at the Horsetooth Open Water Swim, which was is a competition over a 2.4 mile course.  They followed it up with a fifth place spot at the Fresno State Chick-Fil-A Invite and were third out of four teams at the Rice Invite. On the men's side, this will be the third meet for the Falcons. They competed against Colorado-Mesa and BYU at the Intermountain Shootout earning a victory against the Mavericks but lost to the Cougars.
