LARAMIE, Wyo. (October 16, 2018) – Leading up to the 2018-19 Cowgirl basketball season, GoWyo.com will use Q&A's to introduce the incoming freshmen. Today, we caught up with Maria Torreblanca, a guard from Melilla, Spain, who is majoring in kinesiology & health promotion.
 
Why did you choose to attend the University of Wyoming?
Firstly, for the basketball team. I like the way they play, and I like that we have a lot of internationals. Secondly, because here I can study what I like.
 
How would you describe your style of play?
I really like to shoot and play fast breaks.
 
How did you get into playing basketball?
When I was eight, one of my friends played, so I started playing to be with her.
 
What's your favorite food?
My grandmothers paella (it's soooo good).
 
If you couldn't play basketball, what sport would you play?
Handball.
 
Who's your biggest role model?
My parents, especially my father in basketball.
 
Is it more fun to make a play that fires up your home crowd or silences a road crowd?
I like both but I prefer to silence a road crowd.
 
What is your favorite karaoke song?
ALL, I love to sing. But if I have to choose, I would say "Colgando En Tus Manos." It's a famous Spanish duet.
 
What's the best advice you've ever been given?
T+C=EV, it is in Spanish, but it means work + consistency = life success.
 
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation.
 
Where in the world would you like to visit the most?
Argentina or Australia.
 
What was your nickname growing up?
Mery, I love it!
 
What is your least favorite chore?
Cleaning the kitchen after eating.
 
What's the most essential thing you pack for a roadtrip?
A comfortable pair of shoes.
 
How has the transition to college gone so far for you?
It's been going so good, I really like this place and my teammates are fantastic.
