LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 12, 2018) – The Cowgirl swimming and diving team hosted its first dual of the season and came away with a 178-117 victory on Friday night over the New Mexico State Aggies
CeeJay Harris dominated the diving board with first place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, scoring 262.35 in the 1-meter and 261.08 in the 3-meter.
Peyton GrandPre also had success on the boards as she posted a score of 245.33 on the 1-meter to take third. GrandPre topped off her night in the 3-meter competition with a score of 246.15 earning her second place.
Talita Te Flan and
Astrid Iturbe kicked things off for the Cowgirls by placing first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle with times of 10:54.94 and 10:56.69. Then in the 100-yard backstroke Wyoming swept the top three spots.
Connor Tarver was in the top spot with her time of 58.28, behind her was
Emily Sizemore touching the wall in 1:00.61. In third place was
Abbey Selin with a time of 1:01.10.
"Astrid and Talita both had good races in the 1000," Head Coach
Dave Denniston said. "
Maggie Clerkin had a great 500 free time today. It is fun racing up at home and the crowd was awesome."
Lainee Jones, coming off a Mountain West swimmer of the week performance last week, took home two first place victories in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly against New Mexico State. Jones reached the wall in 24.62 to take first in the 50-yard free. She then finished with a time of 58.14 in the 100-yard butterfly to cap off her night.
In the 500-yard freestyle, the Cowgirls once again swept the boards. In first place was
Daniela Luna Rocha with a time of 5:11.86.
Maggie Clerkin followed with a time of 5:19.42 while
Gabrielle Limon was third touching the wall in 5:24.00.
Wyoming swimming and diving will return to action against the Air Force Falcons. Competition is set to begin at 4 p.m. MT. in Colorado Springs.
