LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 1, 2018) – The Wyoming volleyball team returns home this week for a pair of challenges against MW foes Colorado State and Air Force at the UniWyo Sports Complex.
The team will open the week on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. MT with a Border War showdown against the Rams before hosting the Falcons on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MT.
The Cowgirls hit a bit of a speedbump in their second trip out West in as many weeks, dropping contests at Fresno State and San Diego State. Wyoming fell, 3-1, at the hands of the Bulldogs on Thursday before coming up just short in a five-set match against the Aztecs last Saturday.
"We have to make sure we don't let these weekend matches beat us again," head coach
Chad Callihan said. "We need to avoid having a hangover from the tough roadtrip. I know I'm pretty disappointed, and I know the team is too. Those were two matches where both teams played pretty well, but we had opportunities, particularly in the San Diego State match. I think when you're up, 12-10 in the fifth you need to be able to close that out, so that one really stung but it doesn't get any easier.
"Obviously, Colorado State is a force every year and Air Force is having a fantastic year, so we're going to have to do our best to play with a little more confidence."
Colorado State enters the week at 11-5 following a weekend in which they split matches at San Diego State and Fresno State. The Rams defeated San Diego State, 3-1, on Thursday before taking their first MW loss of the season at Fresno State in a 3-1 contest. Colorado State has had the upper hand in the series historically, leading, 64-19.
Air Force is coming off a 2-1 start to their MW schedule with wins over San Diego State and UNLV with a loss to New Mexico, bringing their overall record to 12-5. The Cowgirls and Falcons will be meeting for the 38th time in the series between the two teams, which dates back to 1981. Wyoming has won 31 of the previous 37 matchups, including eight straight and 26 of the last 27 meetings.
