LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 1, 2017) – The Wyoming women's basketball team will host its first conference game on Wednesday against the Nevada Wolf Pack. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. MT at Arena-Auditorium. Live audio, video and stats can be found on the GoWyo.com website.
The Cowgirls opened up league play with a 68-62 loss against San Diego State last Thursday. Wyoming's record now stands at 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the MW. Sophomore
Taylor Rusk led all Cowgirl scorers with 14 points along with four rebounds. Junior
Marta Gomez followed with 11 points. Seniors
Liv Roberts and
Natalie Baker each chipped in ten points, while Roberts added six rebounds. Junior
Bailee Cotton finished the night with a team-high seven rebounds plus eight points. Wyoming shot 21-of-59 (.356) from the field and 10-of-25 (.400) from beyond the arc.
Roberts is averaging a team-high 10.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest. She is followed by Cotton who is adding 9.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, while Rusk is chipping in 8.9 points and 2.9 assists per game. The Cowgirls are shooting 247-of-627 (.394) from the field and 143-of-188 (.761) from the free throw line through 12 games.
Nevada comes in to the contest 8-5 overall and 1-1 in MW play. Senior Teige Zeller leads the way with 13.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore Camariah King follows with 10.1 points respectively. As a squad, the Wolf Pack are shooting 325-794 (.409) from the field and out rebounding opponents 39.9-35.8. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 11-19 and 5-13 in the league last season.
This will be the 22nd meeting ever between the two schools. UW leads the series 15-6. The last time the two teams met was January 14, 2017 with the Cowgirls coming out on top 72-59. Nevada is coached by Amanda Levens who is in her first season with the program.
