LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming senior goalkeeper
Georgia Rowntree earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance last weekend, the conference announced yesterday.
Rowntree helped the Cowgirls to a 1-0-1 record with a 3-1 win over UTEP on Friday and a 0-0 double-overtime draw against McNeese State on Sunday. She allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of action to preserve Wyoming's non-conference home unbeaten streak, now the longest in the country among D-I programs. The Cowgirls have not lost to a non-conference opponent at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex since Sept. 22, 2013, and hold a 9-0-2 record in such games since the loss.
The Sydney, Australia, native recorded two saves in Friday's victory and six saves on Sunday, including five between the two overtimes to preserve the shutout. The draw was Rowntree's first clean sheet of the season. Rowntree has played every minute of action thus far on the year.
The Cowgirls have a split pair of games next weekend, starting with a road matchup at Utah Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT. Wyoming will then return home to face Northern Colorado on Sunday at 1 p.m.
