Cowgirls Drop Exhibition Match to Northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. (Aug. 18, 2017) -- The University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team fell to Northern Colorado in an exhibition match on Friday evening. UNC took the match 3-1 (15-25, 25-17, 18-25, 20-25) in the Bank of Colorado Arena.

The Brown and Gold were led by Emily Lewis with 12 kills on Friday. Lewis also added two digs along with three total blocks. Halie McArdle threw in nine kills against the Bears, in addition to five digs and two total blocks. Reed Copeland led the defensive front for UW. The junior had a match-best seven blocks as well as six kills. Jackie McBride recorded eight kills on 11 attempts during the match. McBride also had four blocks, as Tara Traphagan was second on the team with six total blocks in addition to seven kills. 

Marissa Harmon led both squads with 31 assists. Harmon also had seven digs and four kills in her first action as a Cowgirl. Madi Fields and Lily Austin combined for 26 digs. Fields led both UW and UNC with 17, as Austin was one shy of double-digits.

Despite a 4-1 start for Wyoming, UNC used a .438 hitting clip in the first set to take a 1-0 set advantage. The Bears also had three service aces in the opening act while UW had five service errors. McBride led Wyoming with her first four kills, as Harmon chipped in eight assists to begin the match.

Five different Cowgirls recorded at least two kills in the second set. McArdle led the way with six, while Harmon had three and 11 of her assists. Fields had a set-high six digs in the second stanza. Additionally, UW had a .353 hitting percentage in the second set to even the set score 1-1.

In the third set, Lewis had four kills for the Brown and Gold. Harmon had eight digs as Fields had seven digs. In the fourth set, McArdle and Lewis each had three kills for UW's offensive attack. The Cowgirls recorded 11 total digs and eight kills in the final frame. 

Wyoming will be back in action tomorrow evening for the Brown and Gold scrimmage. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. from inside the beautiful UniWyo Sports Complex.
