GoWyo.com will connect with several Cowboy basketball
players throughout the summer in a special weekly series called "Connecting
with the Cowboys." This week we visit with Austin Mueller, who redshirted for
the Pokes last season.
GoWyo.com –How was your first year with the program?
Mueller – The biggest things were getting to learn the
offense and adjust to the speed of the game. It was good to bond with the guys,
since we have most of the same team that we had last year. It was a really
productive season for me and I got to work on my game a lot.
GoWyo.com –What did you improve most in your game?
Mueller – I feel like I got stronger and developed my shot
more. One of the most important parts is my basketball IQ. I learned a lot from
the coaching staff on both ends of the floor. Passing and spacing, and then
improving my defensive capabilities.
GoWyo.com – How were the redshirts as a group?
Mueller – It's a long season not being able to play. We
cheered on the team from the end of the bench every game. We made the most of
it and got closer as a group being on the scout team together. We made each
other better and had fun with it.
GoWyo.com – What kind of impact do you think you can make
this season?
Mueller – I think I can bring energy to the team. On
offense, hitting open shots. On defense, being able to guard different
positions on the floor.
GoWyo.com –What kind of players will Brodricks Jones and Ny
Redding be for the Pokes?
Mueller – Ny is a really hard worker, a great point guard
and a really good shooter. He's been a good leader. Buddha works hard too and
he has special talent. He'll be a skilled guy that can knock down shots and get
stops on defense.
GoWyo.com – What do you like to do in the summertime?
Mueller – Besides lifting and workouts, I've been relaxing.
I've gone fishing a couple times, including a trip to Glendo, Wyo., with a
friend from high school.
