GoWyo.com will connect with several Cowboy basketball players throughout the summer in a special weekly series called “Connecting with the Cowboys.” This week we visit with redshirt junior Nyaires Redding, who redshirted for the Pokes last season after transferring from Washington State. He is the stepson of Wyoming assistant coach Jermaine Kimbrough.

GoWyo.com –How was your first year with the program?

Redding – My first year went really well. It gave me a chance to get better at some parts of my game. It was great to develop my strengths. But I would say it was very difficult to sit and watch the games and not be out there on the court.

GoWyo.com –What did you improve most in your game?

Redding – I would have to say my jump shot. I really worked on my transition game and finishing at the hoop through contact. Catching and shooting is something I have worked on as well and my game has really become well rounded.

GoWyo.com – How were the redshirts as a group?

Redding – We really bonded together during our workouts. But overall the chemistry with the entire team was great since we were so involved in practice. I really got to see their strengths as well and as a point guard that will be valuable information.

GoWyo.com –How great was it to be back around your family?

Redding – It was really a blessing. When I wasn’t at Washington State I wouldn’t see them as much, but now I can head home and get a good home cooked meal. The thing now is that I’m only a phone call away from being a babysitter for the kids.

GoWyo.com –What kind of players will Buddha Jones and Austin Mueller be for the Pokes?

Redding – Buddha will be a player that has gained a lot of mental toughness. He will be a true stretch player. He is a great shooter that can rebound and play defense. Austin is going to be a great asset and a nice defensive piece for the team. He gained confidence and has the ability to hit shots.

GoWyo.com – What does Ny Redding do in the summertime?

Redding – I like to do some many different things. I like to come in and get my workouts in and improve each day. I like to listen to some music and enjoy the sun and enjoy a little break from a heavy school workload.
