2017 Schedule
LARAMIE, Wyo. – Head coach Pete Cuadrado and the University of Wyoming women’s
soccer program announced its 2017 schedule this afternoon. The 19-game slate
features 10 home matches at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, five of which
are against Mountain West foes.
For the second-consecutive year, the Cowgirls will start their
season hosting an exhibition matchup in Hastings, Neb. Wyoming will face off
with South Dakota State on Friday, Aug. 11, in their only preseason game before
opening the 2017 campaign at Baylor on Sunday, Aug. 20. The Cowgirls will play
their first home match of the year on Friday, Aug. 25, against Southern Utah looking
to extend their home winning streak against non-conference opponents that dates
back to the 2013 season.
Wyoming then faces a quick turnaround with a road contest
against the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, Aug. 27. The Cowgirls return home for the first of
three weekend home stretches on Sept. 1 and 3. Wyoming will face UTEP on Friday
before a contest with McNeese State on Sunday afternoon. The final road
non-conference game will be in Orem, Utah, against Utah Valley in a rematch of
last season’s double-overtime thriller.
Home matchups against Northern Colorado and Idaho State round out the
non-conference portion of the schedule.
“We’re excited about the quality of teams we will face this
season, both in non-conference and then certainly against the Mountain West.”
UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “Baylor and Kentucky on the road are good
tests for our team. Facing UTEP at home is a good opportunity after last season’s
game in El Paso. Northern Colorado is a great rivalry, and getting another win
over Utah Valley would be big.”
The Cowgirls open Mountain West play in Colorado Springs,
Colo., against Colorado College on Sept. 22 and Air Force on Sept. 24. Five of
Wyoming’s 10 conference games will be played at home, starting with Fresno
State on Sept. 29 and San Jose State on Oct. 1. A road swing to Nevada the
following weekend will match the Cowgirls with the Nevada Wolfpack on Oct. 6
and UNLV on Oct. 8. Wyoming will welcome Utah State to the Louis S. Madrid
Complex on Oct. 13 followed by Boise State on Oct. 15. San Diego State will
host the Cowgirls on Oct. 20 before UW and concludes its home slate against New
Mexico on Oct. 22. The regular season finale is a road game against conference
rival Colorado State on Oct. 27.
All regular season games will be played on Fridays and
Sundays, except for a home game against Idaho State on Thursday, Sept. 14.
The Mountain West Tournament will run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4
in Las Vegas, Nev., hosted by UNLV.
