SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Senior Ryan Wallen carded a 74 (+3) in the second round of the
NCAA Men's Division I Washington Regional on Tuesday at the Aldarra Golf Club. Rainy
conditions delayed the round nearly four hours.
Wallen, a Washington native accustomed to the weather
conditions, started the day similar to the first round. Pars on the first two
holes and a birdie on the par-five 12th hole dropped him to even par for the
tournament. He would close out his opening nine holes with one more birdie and
three bogeys.
"Ryan played hard and the conditions were awful, but he dealt
with it and made it through the day," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "He hung
in there and I'm proud of how he competed. Regardless of his position, he has
to go play solid tomorrow and have fun. If he gets some putts to drop, you
never know what will happen."
Playing in the final group of the day, Wallen continued to fight
through poor playing conditions through the evening. His card on the final nine
holes consisted of just two bogeys but no birdies.
Wallen is still in the mix to earn a spot in the NCAA Men's
Division I Championship. The top five teams from the Washington Regional will
advance, along with the top individual that does not belong to one of the five
advancing teams. Among individuals not on a top-five team, Wallen is tied for
12th but only four strokes off of the leaders, who sit at even par.
Play will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. MT. Follow @wyo_golf
