MW Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –  Four Cowboys and two Cowgirls have been named to the 2017 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference Team, the conference announced Monday. With Scott Carter as a double honoree in the men's long jump and men's triple jump, the Pokes collected a total of seven awards for their efforts at the 2017 MW outdoor championships in Logan, Utah, over the weekend. Carter and Damon Unland were Wyoming's two event champions, taking top honors in the men's triple jump and men's hammer throw, respectively.

Carter mirrored his performance from the 2017 MW indoor championships, taking the triple jump crown and finishing as runner-up in the long jump. Carter won the triple jump on his sixth and final attempt, leaping 51 feet, 5.75 inches to secure the victory over New Mexico's Samuel Trigg. Carter's leap of 25 feet, 3.5 inches was the fifth-best in MW outdoor championship history, also moving him all the way up to No. 2 on the UW all-time list for the event. He's now a three-time outdoor all-conference honoree, with two awards in the triple jump and one in the long jump.

Jordan Charles earned all-MW honors in the 110-meter hurdles for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first Cowboy to be named to the All-Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Team for four straight years in one event.

Unland demolished the field in the men's hammer throw, tossing 197-8 to win the event by nearly 10 feet for his first career outdoor all-MW honor. Emelda Malm-Annan also earned her first outdoor all-MW accolade on the women's side of the event, tossing a personal best 197-2 for third place while moving up to No. 3 on the UW all-time list for the event.

Audra DeStefano collected her fourth consecutive all-MW honor in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in with an altitude-adjusted time of 10:18.38. DeStefano is the first Cowgirl to be named to the All-Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Team for four consecutive years in the same event since Shaylee Babbitt was an all-conference performer in the 100-meter hurdles from 2006 to 2009.

Ricky Faure earned his second career outdoor all-conference award in the 800 meters, taking third place at 1:47.93.
