LARAMIE, Wyo. – Cowboy golf hosts the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., next Monday and Tuesday. The field of 21 teams will play three rounds over two days on the Cattail course. Round one will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT on Monday, with round two getting underway immediately after. The final round will be another 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

Junior Drew McCullough is coming off two top-15 finishes last week in a pair of tough tournaments. He tied for seventh at the Duck Invite with an even-par 213, including a 68 (-3) in his final round. McCullough followed it up at The Goodwin where he tied for 13th with a 214 (+4). Senior Ryan Wallen matched McCullough’s mark, and the duo placed ahead of seven players ranked in the NCAA top 50.

The Cattail course at Whirlwind is a par-72 track with a length of 7,334 yards. The Cowboys posted one of their best finishes of the season last year when they hosted the Cowboy Classic. UW finished third out of the 19-team field with a team score of 852 (-12). Colorado took the title with a mark of 843 (-21). Wallen was Wyoming’s top individual finisher, tying for fifth with an eight-under 208.

“We’re certainly excited to host this event at one of the top golf courses in the country,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “The staff does a great job, the field is tough and it’s a course that all of our guys have played. All five of our guys played well at times last week, so it’s a matter of maintaining that and continuing to do what we do.”

The Pokes have played against some of the best teams in the nation this season, and the field at the Cowboy Classic will be no different. Six teams including UW rank in the NCAA top 100, with three in the top 50. No. 25 Arizona State and No. 28 Colorado will each send individuals, and No. 41 Kansas will be the top-ranked team bringing a full squad to the tournament.
