LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming women’s soccer capped off its final competition of the
spring with a 2-1 win over Utah State last Sunday on goals from junior forward
Shaina Ashouri and freshman forward Michaela Stark. The Cowgirls will close out
the season this Sunday with their annual Alumni Game.
The Cowgirls played their last four competitive games of the
spring schedule over the last two weekends. On April 16, Wyoming traveled to
Colorado for matchups at CU-Boulder and Colorado School of Mines. Wyoming
earned a hard-fought win against the Buffs, netting two second-half goals to
grab the 2-1 victory. Ashouri tallied the first on an assist from sophomore
defender Alyssa Murray. Sophomore Annika Clayton scored the game-winner on a free
kick. Junior goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree played all 90 minutes for UW, coming
up with eight saves.
Wyoming struggled to keep the offense going in the second
game of the day against the Orediggers. The Cowgirls put seven shots on goal,
but could not find the back of the net and fell 1-0 for their first loss of the
spring campaign. Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Cristina Salazar logged three
saves in 90 minutes of action.
On April 23, the Cowgirls played their final double-header
at Utah and Utah State. After a 2-0 defeat to the Utes, Wyoming responded with
a 2-1 win over the Aggies. Ashouri scored the first goal on a pass from junior defender Tristan Tyrrell, and then assisted the second the goal put away by Stark.
Wyoming recorded an 8-2 record in its 10-game spring slate,
including an undefeated record against Mountain West foes Colorado State and
Utah State. The Cowgirls outscored their opponents, 28-6, over the same span.
Wyoming will conclude its spring schedule at home with its
annual Alumni Game this Sunday at 12 p.m. in the IPF. The game is open to fans
and any alumni looking to participate should contact assistant coach Matt
