FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of Wyoming track & field team had a solid day in all event areas at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., on Saturday, winning six events as senior
Jordan Charles took home victories in both the men's 100-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles competitions. The Cowboys' 4x400-meter relay team of
Bryce Ailshie,
Ricky Faure,
Kevin Blackett and
Jace Marx provided one of the day's major highlights for Wyoming, contributing the No. 4 time on the UW all-time list for the event and taking top honors on Saturday at 3:11.81. The Cowboys took third out of five teams in the men's Division I team standings at 101.5 points, while the Cowgirls were third of four Division I women's teams with 127 points.
Charles clocked 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters to win the event while Marx was third at 10.80. Charles won the 110-meter hurdles by four tenths of a second in 14.09. In the women's 100-meter hurdles,
Mikalah Skates clocked in at 14.32 for a third-place finish. The Cowgirls' 4x400-meter relay team clocked in with a season-best time of 3:51.74, taking second.
Meanwhile,
Sam Kirkeide was the runner-up in the men's 200 meters at 21.79. The Cowboys' 4x100-meter relay team of Blackett, Charles, Kirkeide and Marx also took top honors, crossing the finish line with a time of 41.14.
Kerry White was victorious in the 800 meters for the Cowgirls, posting a raw time of 2:11.18, while
Calbi Ausmann and
Emily Person went 3-4 at 2:17.38 and 2:17.41, respectively.
Solana Quistorff was the second-place finisher in the women's 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:47.48.
Calum Kepler was third in the men's 800 meters, posting a raw time of 1:53.19.
Ja'la Henderson was another event winner for the Cowgirls, taking first in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10.75 inches.
Jerayah Davis followed Henderson, taking second at 18-8.5. On the men's side of the long jump,
Bobby Wingeleth took runner-up honors at 22-8.5. In the women's triple jump,
Allegra Carson leapt 38-0.75 for third place.
Emelda Malm-Annan continued her consistent season with a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw, tossing 190-11. On the men's side of the event,
Damon Unland took third place with a toss of 186-1. He also finished third in the men's discus, throwing 165-4, while
Garrett Lynch placed fourth at 163-2.
Hannah Carr was the runner-up in the women's discus, throwing 146-3, while also taking third in the shot put at 43-1.75. In the men's javelin throw,
Hap Frketich took second place with a toss of 191-2, just short of a season best.
"I thought it was a solid day," said head coach
Bryan Berryhill on Saturday following the meet. "The energy was there. We saw a lot of solid performances across the board in all event areas. I think we took another step forward to being a better team before the conference championships."
Wyoming will host its only outdoor meet of the 2017 season on Friday, welcoming teams from around the region for the 7220 Invite. Track events and field events begin at 11 a.m. MT.
