TUCSON,
Ariz. – Wyoming men's golf remains in
sixth place at the 2017 Mountain West Championship after a second round score
of 287 (-1) on Saturday at the Omni Tucson National – Catalina Course.
After 36 holes, the Cowboys have a team total of 576 (E).
Senior Ryan
Wallen continues to lead the charge for the Pokes, logging a 70 (-2) on
day two of the conference championship.
Now at seven under on the weekend, Wallen is in third place overall and just
two strokes off the leader.
Sophomore John Murdock tied
Wallen for UW's low round of the day at 70 (-2). The mark also tied Murdock's
lowest round of the season. He is now four over for the tournament and tied for
38th. Junior Drew McCullough carded a 73 (+1) on the day with 17 pars and just
one bogey. McCullough sits tied for 26th after a 36-hole score of 145 (+1)
"The guys
played hard and I'm pleased with their effort today," UW head coach Joe Jensen
said. "Drew (McCullough) played steady, a lot of pars. Glenn (Workman) and John
(Murdock) both bounced back from big numbers and I'm proud of how they
responded. Obviously Ryan (Wallen) is in the hunt. This is a fun championship
because of how tight it is. We'll just stick to our process tomorrow and see
what happens. I'd love to have a low score tomorrow and we're really focused on
that right now."
Juniors
Glenn Workman and Arron Lickteig each shot rounds of 74 (+2) on Saturday,
rounding out Wyoming's team total of 287 (-1). Lickteig recorded the only eagle
of the day for the Pokes on the par-five second hole, his fourth of the season.
Colorado State charged up the
leaderboard in the second round and are now in first place at -13. Boise State
and UNLV are tied for second at -11. Only two individuals own better 36-hole
scores than Wallen. Brian Humphreys of Boise State holds a 135 (-9) while John
Oda of UNLV holds a 136 (-8).
Wyoming
will be paired with Nevada for the final round tomorrow. The Pokes will tee off
in the same time slots as rounds one and two, beginning at 8:20 MT.
