LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming women’s soccer is now 6-0 in its spring season after two more shutout wins last weekend, highlighted by a 1-0 victory over Mountain West rival Colorado State.

The Cowgirls have gathered wins in convincing fashion during their spring slate with a stingy defense and potent offense. Wyoming has outscored its opponents, 24-1, over six contests.

On March 26, UW hosted Regis and Laramie County Community College. The Cowgirls defeated the Rangers, 4-1, led by a hat trick from junior forward Shaina Ashouri. Sophomore transfer midfielder Morgan McDougal tabbed the fourth goal, her first wearing the brown and gold. Wyoming followed up the performance with a dominating win over LCCC, 9-0. Freshman forward Michaela Stark tallied a hat trick of her own, while two defenders, freshman Rachael Troxel and junior Tristan Tyrrell, each found their way into the scoring column. Ashouri added two more goals and Morgan added another. Ashouri led the team with three assists over the two games, along with junior midfielder Summer Halle and junior forward Alisha Bass who recorded two assists each.

Last weekend, the Cowgirls traveled south to face off against Denver and conference foe Colorado State. Halle netted the game’s only goal on an assist from Ashouri. Junior goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree and redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Cristina Salazar split time for the shutout. Junior forward Brittney Stark led the way against the Rams, helping UW to the 1-0 victory with her goal. Rowntree and Salazar once again shared the shutout.

Wyoming will travel to Colorado again this weekend for another double-header. First, the Cowgirls will take on the Colorado Buffs at 12 p.m. in Boulder, Colo. Then UW will compete against Colorado School of Mines at 6 p.m. in Golden, Colo. Just four games remain on the spring schedule before concluding with the alumni game on April 30.
