LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 24, 2017) – The University of Wyoming women’s golf team continues its spring schedule at the Islander Classic, Monday and Tuesday at the Corpus Christi Country Club. The Islander Classic will be the first tournament in The Lone Star state for Wyoming since 2003 when UW took part in the Sam Houston State Spring Classic.
Two rounds begins Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. MT, before a final round of play on Tuesday. Live results for the tournament will be available on Golfstat.com. UW’s lineup will feature Megan Knadler, Mackenzie Barrie, Gabrielle Gibson, Klara Castillo and Erin Sargent. Sarah Hankins will take part as an individual for the Brown and Gold.
The Cowgirls are coming of their fourth top-ten finish of the year, as they placed ninth of 15 teams at the Battle at the Rock tournament in Riverside, Calif., on Feb. 14. UW was led by Knadler, who posted the best finish of her career. For tournaments played Feb. 12-14, the sophomore had the second-best three-round score among MW competitors. She tied for fifth at the Battle at the Rock with a total mark of 224 (+8). It was the first top-five finish of her career and third within the top-ten. Additionally, her three-round total was one shot off her career-best.
Also posting top-30 finishes at the Battle at the Rock was Barrie and Gibson. The teammates ended the two-day tournament tied for 27th for UW. They each recorded a three-round mark of 231 (+15). It was the fourth top-30 finish for Gibson and third for Barrie this season.
