Thursday MWC Results
College Station, Texas – Cowgirl swimming and
diving sit in fourth place after the second day of action at the Mountain West
Championships at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, Texas.
Wyoming is now in
fourth at the midpoint of the MW Championships with 400 points. Boise State
leads the field with 605.5 points, followed by Nevada with 490 points. San
Diego State sits in third with 437 points. New Mexico is fifth with 270 points
and Colorado State is in sixth with 253 points. San Jose State (216 pts.), Fresno
State (189.5 pts.), UNLV (173 pts.) and Air Force (172 pts.) round out the
rankings.
The Cowgirls placed
third in the 200 freestyle relay to kick off the night. The team of sophomore
Isobel Ryan, senior Danielle Badger, sophomore Samantha Burke and senior Rachel McKivigan clocked a time of 1:31.05, the third-fastest in school history. Junior
Kelly Sheldon placed fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.53. Her
preliminary time of 4:47.26 broke the Wyoming school record.
Freshman Karla Contreras continued her successful championship performance with a third-place
finish on the 3-meter board. Her score of 352.40 set a new career-best mark,
and was also a season-high for a Cowgirl diver and the second-best score in
school history. Junior Alanna Dassoff put forward the best performance for the
Cowgirls in the 200 individual medley, recording a time of 2:03.05 in the
consolation final. It was her season best and the eighth-fastest in school
history.
Wyoming picked up
points in the 50 freestyle with Badger and Ryan both placing in the top-eight. Badger
earned sixth with a time of 22.92, while Ryan placed eighth with a time of
23.04.
The Cowgirls will
return to action tomorrow morning with the preliminary session at 11 a.m. MT
followed by the finals of six events beginning in the 6:30 p.m. session.
