LARAMIE, Wyo. – Cowgirl swimming and diving will take on Northern Colorado this Friday in its last home dual of the 2017-18 season. Competition will begin with a board of diving at 2:30 p.m. MT at Corbett Pool before races start at 4 p.m.
The Cowgirls are 4-1 in duals this season after a successful pair of meets last week. The UW women took down Colorado State in the Border War last Thursday, before defeating another Mountain West foe, Air Force, on Saturday. This will be Wyoming's second time this season competing against Northern Colorado, who the Cowgirls outscored at the Denver Relays on Oct. 7. The Bears placed third out of four teams, behind second-place UW.
Senior
Maria Harutjunjan and junior
Samantha Burke are both coming off multiple-win performances on Saturday. Harutjunjan swept the breaststroke events while Burke placed first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. The Cowgirls also swept both distance events, with freshman
Kristyn Bobka and sophomore
Talita Te Flan placing first in the 1000 and 500 freestyle, respectively.
Sophomore
Karla Contreras leads Wyoming's strong diving group, still undefeated this season and now with 10 individual event wins. She is outscoring the second-place diver by an average of 52.2 points in those events. Senior and team captain
Peyton GrandPre, along with junior
CeeJay Harris, could set up a sweep on Friday in both boards.
Northern Colorado will compete in its second dual of the season after facing off with New Mexico State on Oct. 14. The Bears fell to the Aggies, 171-127. The Cowgirls took on New Mexico State back on Oct. 20, claiming the 157-139 win. Freshman Joanna Sacha is one of the Bears' main threats after winning the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley against the Aggies. Senior Sydney Kovar swept the distance events, setting up a battle with Wyoming's group of talented distance swimmers in Friday's 500 and 1,650 freestyle events.
Action will start at 2:30 p.m. MT at Corbett Pool with the first board of diving, followed by the first race of the day set for 4 p.m. Follow @Wyo_SwimDive on twitter for updates throughout the dual.
