LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming soccer found an equalizer in the 62nd minute on Sunday, but the Broncos responded with two goals to close the game out with a 3-1 win over the Cowgirls at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
Wyoming (7-7-2, 3-4-1 MW) fell behind early when sophomore forward Raimee Sherle, the reigning Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, forced a turnover from the UW backline. Sherle found herself one-on-one with senior goalkeeper
Georgia Rowntree and put away the opportunity to give Boise State (9-5-3, 4-2-2 MW) the lead in the 22nd minute. Each team recorded four shots in the opening half but the Broncos held the lead after the first 45 minutes of action.
Redshirt sophomore midfielder
Summer Taube pulled Wyoming level in the 62nd minute. A pass from senior forward
Alisha Bass set up a perfectly placed shot to the right upper-90 for Taube's first career goal. The score would not remain even for long, as Boise State reclaimed the lead in under a minute. Sherle sent a ball into the box where sophomore forward McKenna Kynett headed it over Rowntree as she came off her line attempting to punch the ball clear. Redshirt senior forward Baylee Blaser doubled Boise State's lead with a late goal in the 80th minute to put the game away.
"It's a disappointing result for us but now we have to look ahead to next weekend," UW head coach
Pete Cuadrado said. "With three games left, we need results in order to make the postseason. We have to move on and focus on what's in front of us, and that starts with San Diego State on Friday."
Bass's assist was her third of the season and the 13th of her career. She now needs just two more to tie Amanda Lathrop for third-most in Cowgirl history. Sunday marked Wyoming's third-straight loss of the season, their longest stretch without earning a point in 2017. After holding opponents to two goals or less for the first 14 games of the season, UW has allowed three goals in back-to-back games.
Wyoming's last full weekend of regular-season action consists of one road game followed by Senior Day on their final home game of 2017. The Cowgirls will take on San Diego State on the road, Friday at 8 p.m. MT, before returning home to face New Mexico at 12:30 p.m. Streams for both matches will be available at GoWyo.com along with live stats.
