The University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball program will
ride its current three-match win streak into the second weekend of Mountain
West play. On Saturday, UW will face Utah State at 6 p.m. MT on Kirby Court at
the Wayne Estes Center in Logan, Utah.
“When our team gets going, they are pretty consistent” UW
head coach Chad Callihan said. “We have done a great job of understanding and
having a sense of urgency. If you are able to get those 3-0 sweeps, it can have
a big impact and save us some wear and tear throughout the season. It’s hard to
pick up road wins in this league, so we realize the importance of protecting
our home court. We have traveled to a few tough places already this season, but
we know Utah State has a good home court advantage. It will come down to
executing when we need to. In terms of venue and environment, it is very similar
to what we have here at home.”
Wyoming will enter the match having swept its opening pair
of MW matches last week. The Cowgirls (9-6 overall, 2-0 MW) defeated San Jose
State on Thursday, before claiming victory over Fresno State on Saturday. Wyoming
is hitting .214 (551-230-1500) this season with seniors Laura Beach and Kayla Slofkiss leading the attack with 116 kills each (2.42 kps). Sophomore Reed Copeland follows with 96 kills. Copeland was named the MW Defensive Player of
Week and also leads UW with 62 total blocks (1.29 bps). Senior Courtney Chacon is averaging 8.21 assists per set and has totaled 394 on the year directing the
Cowgirls attack. Junior Lily Austin has 163 digs for Wyoming, as Slofkiss has
recorded 126.
So far this season, Utah State (6-7 overall, 1-1 MW) is

way with 160 kills (3.56 kps). Junior outside hitter Lauren Anderson has joined
