Erie, Colo. (Sept. 26, 2016) – After two rounds at the Mark Simpson Colorado
Invite, Wyoming men's golf sits tied for third with a team score of 565. Senior
Ryan Wallen leads the Cowboys at -6, tied for fourth individually.
UW jumped out to great start on
Monday, posting a first-round team score of 280 that left the Cowboys in second
place. Juniors Drew McCullough and Glenn Workman each shot a four-under 68 in
round one. McCullough finished the day with a two-round score of 142, just
ahead of Workman with a score of 144.
"Ryan Wallen had a nice round
this afternoon, which was great," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "We left a few
shots out there late, but finishing is always tough for everyone. All in all,
it was certainly better. I think we'll have to play well to win tomorrow but
we're going to give it our very best."
Wallen shot 73 (+1) in the opening
round, but came back with a stellar second round to make a push up the
leaderboard. The Blaine, Wash. native tied for the lowest round of the day with
a score of 65 (-7) to finish tied for fourth. Sophomore John Murdock posted a
two-round score of 141 (-3) and junior Arron Lickteig ended the day with a
score of 152 (+8).
The Cowboys head into the final
round on Tuesday just two shots back of second-place Utah, with a score of 563,
and seven shots off the tournament leader and host, Colorado. Play resumes
tomorrow morning with the first group teeing off at 7:55 a.m. MT.
