Head coach Chad Callihan and the Wyoming volleyball team
will conclude preseason practices with the annual Brown and Gold scrimmage on
Friday evening.
The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., in the UniWyo Sports
Complex and will be free and open to the public. Since Aug. 9, the Cowgirls
have held preseason practices to prepare for the upcoming season. Following the
match, fans will be able to receive autographs from their favorite Cowgirls.
Callihan welcomes back five starters and six other
letterwinners from last year’s team that finished with a 23-7 overall record
and 13-5 mark in the Mountain West. Of the returning starters, senior’s Laura Beach and Kayla Slofkiss were each named All-MW selections after their junior
campaigns. Additionally, Beach was named to the 2016 Preseason All-MW team for
the upcoming season. Beach and Slofkiss will be joined by fellow senior
Courtney Chacon, as well as last year’s Freshman of the Year, Reed Copeland. In
all, the Cowgirls consist of three seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, and
five freshman.
To begin the season, Wyoming will travel to the Purdue
Mortar Board Premier on Aug. 26-27, and will challenge Purdue, Kentucky and
Washington State. The Cowgirls will open the season next Friday against the
Boilermakers at 8:00 a.m. MT.
