CSCAA Release
The
Wyoming swimming and diving men and women were both honored as Scholar
All-America teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of
America, as it was announced this week. Additionally, UW placed 14
individuals on the Scholar All-America team.
“We’ve been able to achieve this team award for the last several years,” UW head coach Tom Johnson
said. “It exemplifies how important the academic side of our program
is, and also how academically oriented our student-athletes are. I am
just as proud of our academic success as well as our athletic success.”
The
Cowgirls earned the award with a team grade-point average of 3.37,
while the Cowboys earned the award with a team grade-point average of
3.20. Leading the way on the CSCAA Scholar All-American team were
senior’s Kari Campbell and Emily Ridout, as both earned first team honors. Danielle Badger, Samantha Burke, Molly Coonce, Emma Dow, Isobel Ryan, Emily Stevens, Abby Sullivan, George Eglesfield, Ryan Nelson, Wade Nelson, Jacob Porter and Slade Sheaffer were selected for the Honorable Mention squad.
“It again is a testament to the importance of academics in our
program,” Johnson added. “This is not an easy thing to accomplish. I am
very proud to have 14 individuals earn this honor.”
The College
Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has
designated 658 swimming and diving teams, representing 388 colleges and
universities as Scholar All-America teams. The recognition comes as a
result of each team's classroom performance in the past semester. It is
only the second time in the program’s 30+ year history of the program
that more than 600 teams. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America
Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average of 3.00 or
higher over the spring semester. To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar
All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point
average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective
NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention
selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time
standard or competed at their respective diving qualifying meets.
