LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams continued their success in the classroom earning Team Scholar All-America honors by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday. The Cowgirls earned the award with a team grade-point average of 3.42. The Cowboys earned a team GPA of 3.34 during the spring semester.

The honor is given out during the fall and spring semesters.

"The kids academics have been improving every year and it represents their hard work," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "Smart kids swim fast and this is a testament to their incredible work in the classroom."

Cowgirl swimmers junior Molly Coonce, sophomore Casey Duckworth, junior Nicole Hlavacek and senior Aliyah Mikulski earned perfect 4.00 GPA during the spring semester. The Cowboys had three swimmers earn perfect 4.00 GPAs in freshman Colin Brinkman, junior Ryan Nelson and freshman Slade Sheaffer.

The CSCAA designated a record 406 collegiate swimming and diving programs as Team Scholar All-America. It is the first time in the history of the CSCAA that more than 600 teams representing 406 institutions received the recognition.

The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
