Popovici Named Capital One Academic All-America Third Team

Senior Veronica Popovici was named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Women's At-Large Third Team as selected by CoSIDA. It's the first such honor for her career. She was chosen earlier this month to the First Team Academic All-District VII Team.

The at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf,gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men andwomen; and bowling, rowing and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Popovici, a native of Piatra Neamt, Romania, recently completed her senior year with the Cowgirl tennis team. She finished the year with a 4.0 grade point average in family and consumer sciences. She is a three-time Academic All-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honoree. Popovici earned her fourth consecutive First Team All-Mountain award in singles after going 20-11 overall during the 2013-14 campaign. She was also selected All-Mountain West for the third straight year with doubles partner Dorottya Jonas.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
