Freshman Ja'la Henderson tallied two of the University of Wyoming track and field team's four all-time top-10 performances on Saturday at the Tom Benich Classic. Seniors McKenzie Brogan and Catherine Cloetta had the other two, as the Cowgirls won seven events, while the Cowboys were victorious in five events.

"The kids got out there and competed well today and took advantage of a nice day," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "We haven't had a chance to get outside and practice much, so we needed today to get some work in. Ja'la is talented and a hard worker, but really doesn't like to lose. She's doing a great job following up a conference title indoors with a solid start outdoors."

Wyoming competed in sunny and warm conditions for the first time this spring and Henderson took advantage. She won the 100 meters in 11.93, good for 10th in Cowgirl history, and won the long jump in 19-5 1/4, ninth in Cowgirl history. Both marks were personal bests. Brogan improved her time in the 400-meter hurdles to 1:00.60 to win the event on Saturday and stay ninth in Wyoming's all-time top 10. Cloetta moved up to fourth in Cowgirl history in the steeplechase with a winning time of 11:09.36. Junior Cassidy Meade crossed the line first in the 800 meters in 2:11, while sophomore Quinn DeStefano did the same in the 1,500 meters in 4:39.

Runner-up finishes for the Wyoming women included freshman Emelda Malm-Annan with a personal-best 180-10 in the hammer and senior Madison Seaman in the discus in 154-10. Senior Kereston Thomas placed second in the 100 and 200 meters in 11.97 and 24.36, respectively.

Freshman Bryce Ailshie was the top Cowboy with a personal-best 1:51 to win the 800 meters. Wyoming's male throwers were impressive as well, though. Senior Tyler Anderson was first in the hammer with a personal-best 198-6, while sophomore Garrett Lynch did the same in the shot put after a personal-best 52-9 1/2. Senior Kyle Sullivan won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.89 and junior Alex Pawlak won the steeplechase in 9:34.

Lynch was also second in the discus in 153-6, while freshman Martin Fitzwater finished runner-up in the shot with a throw of 47-10. Senior Mike Seas was second in the 5,000 meters in 15:13. The Cowboys also placed runner-up in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

Wyoming returns to action next weekend at the Colorado Invite in Boulder, Colo.
