Brunette and Derner Run Top 10k Times in MW

Wyoming track and field's Megan Brunette and Aaron Derner ran the fastest 10,000-meter times in the Mountain West this season on Friday at San Francisco State's Distance Carnival.

Brunette, a junior, crossed the finish line in 35:21.58 to set a new personal best by four seconds and place third in the field of 52 runners. The time keeps her third in Cowgirl history in the event, while ranking first in the conference, first in the west region and 14th in the NCAA entering Friday.

Derner, a senior, finished in 30:03.35 for 12th in the 93-man field. His time was 15 seconds shy of his personal best of 29:48, which ranks 10th in Cowboy history. His time is currently first in the conference, second in the west region and 24th in the NCAA entering Friday.

Wyoming's full squads compete at the Tom Benich Invite on Saturday in Greeley, Colo. Field events begin at 9 a.m. MT with running events at 11:50 a.m. Fans can follow live results and live video through GoWYO.com.
