Sophomore Day Timberman broke a 15-year old school record in the triple jump to highlight seven all-time top-10 performances for the University of Wyoming men's and women's track and field teams at the Power Meet on Friday afternoon. The Cowboys earned titles in nine events on the Hager-LeBar Indoor Track at War Memorial Fieldhouse, while the Cowgirls won eight events.

"Overall today was a great performance across the board," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "Every event area had stand-out showings and I think that showed we have a lot of depth in all those events."

Timberman, a native of Casper, Wyo., wasn't even in the Cowgirls' top 10 in the event when the day started, but she unleashed a leap of 39-10 3/4 to break Tomeca Brown's record in 2000 by a quarter of an inch. Not to be outdone, freshman Allegra Carson posted a mark of 38-9 1/2 for fourth in school history in her first collegiate competition. Junior Shana Wilcoxson tied her personal best at 38-3 1/4 in the event, but was bumped from ninth in school history to 11th.

"Coach [Quincy] Howe was an All-American here and when he came back he brought that same mentality to this group," Berryhill said. "We are going to go out and work hard and get better every day and they have embraced that."

Wyoming's two other all-time top-10 performances came from freshmen Ja'la Henderson and Emelda Malm-Annan. Henderson leapt 19-6 3/4 in the long jump for second in Cowgirl history, while Malm-Annan tossed the weight throw 64-3 1/4 for sixth. Her throw was also a Wyoming freshman record, according to UW associate head coach Paul Barrett. Other highlights for the Cowgirls included senior McKenzie Brogan winning the 400 meters in 57.3 and junior Mikalah Skates crossing the line first in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.26.

For the Cowboys, junior Jordan Charles won the 55 meters and 55-meter hurdles in 6.28 and 7.30, respectively. His time in the 55 converts to a 60-meter time of 6.79, which ranks fourth in school history, while his hurdles time converts to a 60-meter hurdles time of 7.90, just three hundredths of a second off his own school record. Freshman Calil Burnett ran a 55-converted-to-60 time of 6.84 for ninth in Cowboy history. Senior Scott Carter's converted time of 8.11 in the hurdles moves him to fourth in UW history.

Sophomore Clay Carlson was first in the 400 meters at 50.7, while sophomore Isaac Kiefer accomplished the same feat in the 600 meters in 1:24. Senior Tyler Anderson won the weight throw with a mark of 63-0 3/4, while sophomore Garrett Lynch was first in the shot put at 51-9 1/4. Carter also leapt 49-4 1/4 in the triple jump for first.

Wyoming returns to action at the Air Force Collegiate Open on Jan. 8.
