Cowboys in Third-Place After Day One of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational

The Wyoming Cowboy golf team opened their season with a strong showing on the opening day of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Saturday at Eisenhower Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Cowboys shot a 575 (-1) in first two rounds of play as they sit in a tie for third-place with Weber State. Sophomore Drew McCullough sits in a tie for 10th-place after firing rounds of 71 (-1) and 71 (-1) , as he recorded 142 (-2) strokes on the day.

"Day one was a good start to the season," Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen said. "The kids played pretty solid and I'm proud of the group."

Junior Ryan Wallen, sophomores Glenn Workman and Quintin Pope finished the day at 145 (+1), as they are currently tied for 21st-place. Senior Kamrin Allen shot 149 (+5) on the day, he finished his day by shooting a 72 (E) in the second round. Allen is followed by John Murdock at 153 (+9) and Arron Lickteig at 154 (+10).

UW shot a team score of 287 (-1) in the opening round in the morning and followed that with a round of 288 (E) in the afternoon. The Cowboys sit 10 strokes behind Colorado (-11) and seven strokes behind Colorado State (-8). Wyoming is one stroke ahead of fifth-place UTEP, as they round out the top-five with a score of 576 (E) for the first two rounds.

"The vibe of the team was good today," Jensen added. "To be at the top of a quality field feels good and gives us confidence."

Wyoming will start action at 7:30 a.m. MT. The Cowboys will play one more 18-hole round at the Eisenhower Golf Club.
